General Questions for Job Seekers
It’s Academic Jobs and Recruiting is a job board as well as a recruiting agency. We focus purely on jobs related to education, and support all types of organizations that require academic professionals and support staff. We primarily work with K-12 schools, colleges and universities but we also help international exchange programs, private companies, early childhood education programs, summer camps and after-school programs. Employers can post their own jobs, and job seekers can apply directly through our site. We also provide executive-level recruitment services for employers and job recommendations for candidates.
It’s Academic is 100% free for job seekers. If you are an employer, we offer many unique and affordable recruitment solutions – you can find our fees listed here.
It’s Academic is strictly confidential for all job seekers. Employers cannot see a job seeker’s information unless the job seeker applies directly to their post, and we will never share your information without your explicit prior consent. We understand that job seekers often look for new opportunities while currently employed, so we store your information securely and confidentially at all times.
To get started, just Sign Up Here – its fast and easy. You can search our job board, and set up a few automatic email alerts so you will be notified when great new opportunities come up. Whether you are applying for a job today or later on, you will also want to upload a resume, or create one from scratch using our resume builder. Once you’ve added a resume, our search consultants will also be able to send you recommendations if they find a job that matches your profile.
Creating a profile and uploading a resume makes applying to jobs a quick and easy process. You can also add other documents like cover letters and transcripts, see the list of your past applications and receive job recommendations from our recruiting experts.
Creating an account is easy and free: just click the Sign Up button in the upper right corner, and select a job seeker account. Your information will be stored in our secure, private database, and will remain strictly confidential. Once you have an account, you can log on to our site at any time, edit and add resumes, upload documents, and apply for jobs.
You can change your email and password under the Job Seeker Profile page in My Account. You can also change your personal information, and other settings here. We always suggest as a job seeker that you try to use your personal email address.
There are two ways to add a resume to It’s Academic. You can upload a resume directly from your computer, or you can create a new resume using our free resume builder.
To start, sign in (or Sign Up if you haven’t created an account yet) and go to My Account in the upper menu, then select Upload a Resume or Create a Resume. You can upload resumes in .pdf, .doc, .docx, .rtf, and .txt file formats, and the process takes just a few seconds.
If you are creating a new resume from scratch, just fill in each section, adding as much information about your skills, education, and experience as possible, then be sure to save your resume with a helpful and professional name. You can save a resume as a draft and edit it later on. However, once a resume has been published it can not be edited. To make changes to a resume that you have completed, copy the resume, and make your changes to the copy. When you are done, you can delete the old version if you wish.
By adding a resume, you’ll be able to apply for jobs with just a few clicks, and our recruiters will be able to find you if there is a job out there that matches you skills. If you need advice on creating resumes, we have several articles on our blog.
Documents such as cover letters, reference letters, degrees and certifications, university transcripts, and a scanned copy of your passport and other ID can be uploaded to your profile from the My Documents page found under My Account. Documents cannot be edited from our site, so if you want to edit or modify a document you have uploaded, edit the original on your computer, and then upload the revised document.
You will have the option to attach any of your documents to a job application, choosing those which are relevant to the position and the employer’s requirements.
If you had an account on our old website, all you have to do is reset your password and you’ll be instantly registered on our new site. All of your old info will be transferred over and we will still have your old resume and other documents on file. You can use them to apply to any job posted by It’s Academic Jobs, but if you want to apply to a position posted directly by an employer, you’ll have to upload or create a new resume. Luckily, uploading a resume is easy and just takes just a few seconds.
Please be aware that we cannot reactive your account once it is deleted, and you will no longer be able to apply for jobs. If you have already found a job, we recommend keeping your profile active in case a great opportunity comes along in the future. In the meantime, your information will be stored securely and confidentially.
If you still want to permanently delete your account, use the Contact Us page to submit your request. Please let us know why you’re deleting your account – if there’s anything we can do to make your experience better we would love to hear from you in detail.
Its Academic is more than a simple job board – we have experienced consultants that are actively supporting employers and helping them connect with great candidates who are a match for their opportunities. The Job Match emails are based on a combination of keywords we may have found in your resume, prior jobs that you have applied for, or if you live in a specific area where we have a new opportunity. We want to make sure that you are informed of any jobs that you might be interested in. If you are not interested in a job recommendation, simply disregard the message – the next Job Match might be the perfect opportunity for you.
Job Alerts are email notifications that you can create on our website to keep you up-to-date on the latest job opportunities that match your criteria. To create a job alert, enter your search parameters into the job search page and then fill in your email and desired frequency in the job alert box to the right.
To ensure delivery of the job alerts, add email@example.com to your contact list or safe sender list, and be sure to check your junk mail/spam if you are not receiving any emails. If you would like to change the frequency or search criteria, create a new job alert from our search page. If you would like to stop receiving a job alert, click the link at the bottom of your email.
Simply click Unsubscribe at the bottom of the email you’ve received, and you will be taken to a webpage where you can confirm your choice.
Once you’ve found a job that you’re interested in, whether through a job search or one of our communications, you can apply through our site by signing in (or signing up if you don’t have an account yet) and clicking the Apply Now button on a job. At that point you may be prompted to apply though our website or you may be sent to the employer’s website. Applying through our website will allow you to attach the resume and other documents that you have uploaded to your It’s Academic profile. If you apply through the employer’s website, you will be redirected to the appropriate page where you can complete your application according to their instructions.
All of our applicant’s information remains 100% confidential, and no information will ever be shared publicly at any time without your prior and explicit consent. Some of the jobs on our website have an email address in the description so you can apply directly to the employer and you can also email your resume and any requests to firstname.lastname@example.org. However, it is always preferable to create an account and upload your resume unless otherwise specified, since this is what the employer will expect.
Wait to hear from the employer. Don’t forget to check your email, spam folder, and voicemail regularly. If you do not hear from the employer within seven to ten business days, you may wish to try contacting them directly, if possible.
Some of the employers who advertise jobs on our site require job seekers to apply on their company website. When you click Apply Now on It’s Academic, you may be sent to the employer’s site to finish the application process. Don’t skip this step! If you do not fully complete the application process, you won’t be considered for the job.
Congratulations! The most important advice we can give you is to closely follow the employer’s instructions, be on time, be presentable and be well-prepared. You can also read these helpful interview tips.
It’s Academic and many of our employers invite pre-screened job seekers to complete a video interview that may be live or recorded. That’s great news – this means your information has been reviewed, and the employer thinks you may be an excellent candidate for the role. Typically, you will be given interview questions to answer while speaking to the camera on your computer, tablet or even your smart phone. Follow the employer’s instructions closely, and for more info on how to succeed in a video interview, please read this article.
Because of high turnover rate, some of our employers choose to list their job openings with It’s Academic year-round to build a talent pool of potential candidates. These employers regularly hire new employees, but they may not be hiring at the exact moment you have applied. What does this mean for you? If you apply for a job and the employer tells you they’re not interviewing now, be patient. We hear from job seekers that they get hired weeks, even months after applying. The employer has your application filed away and may contact you when hiring has begun again. In the meantime, check our job board regularly, or sign up for a Job Alert.
We can’t give you an exact answer because It’s Academic is not involved in employers’ hiring decisions. There are many possible reasons why your application may have been rejected – there may have been a lot of competition for that particular position, or your skills and work experience may not have been exactly what the employer was looking for. Check out our series of articles on finding your ideal job, where we provide tips on how you can make sure your applications are in top shape. Keep applying and the right job will come at the right time.
We primarily offer academic jobs in the United States and Canada, and “international jobs” which are generally positions for native English speakers in non-English speaking regions like Asia, the Middle East, Europe and South America. Normally these positions are at international schools that offer an American, Canadian or British curriculum, and specific requirements will vary for each position. In Canada or the United States, it is difficult to get a job unless you are already a Canadian or American passport holder, and eligible to work in that specific country.
