General Questions for Job Seekers

What is It’s Academic Jobs and Recruiting?

It’s Academic Jobs and Recruiting is a job board as well as a recruiting agency. We focus purely on jobs related to education, and support all types of organizations that require academic professionals and support staff. We primarily work with K-12 schools, colleges and universities but we also help international exchange programs, private companies, early childhood education programs, summer camps and after-school programs. Employers can post their own jobs, and job seekers can apply directly through our site. We also provide executive-level recruitment services for employers and job recommendations for candidates.

How much does It's Academic cost to use?

It’s Academic is 100% free for job seekers. If you are an employer, we offer many unique and affordable recruitment solutions  – you can find our fees listed here.

Is your service confidential and secure?

It’s Academic is strictly confidential for all job seekers. Employers cannot see a job seeker’s information unless the job seeker applies directly to their post, and we will never share your information without your explicit prior consent. We understand that job seekers often look for new opportunities while currently employed, so we store your information securely and confidentially at all times.

Your Account

How do I begin?

Sign up and create a resume to make applying for future jobs a breeze. Start searching our job board, and set up a few automatic email alerts so you will be notified when great new opportunities come up. Once you’ve built a resume, our search consultants will also be able to send you recommendations if they find a job that matches your profile.

Why should I create a profile?

Creating a profile and resumes makes applying to jobs a quick and easy process. You can also upload documents, see the list of your past applications and receive job recommendations from our recruiting experts.

How do I create an account?

Creating an account is easy and free: just click the Sign Up button in the upper right corner, fill in your profile, then create a resume in just a few minutes (see our easy step-by-step guide). Your information will be stored in our secure, private database, and will remain strictly confidential. Once you have an account, you can log on to our site at any time, edit and create resumes, upload documents, and apply for jobs.

How do I change my email address or password?

You can change your email under the Job Seeker Profile page in My Account. You can also change your password, personal information, and other settings. We always suggest as a job seeker that you try to use you personal email address.

How do I create and edit my resumes?

You probably already have a resume on your computer and you can simply copy/paste that data over to the It’s Academic ‘Create a Resume’ module in only a few minutes. We also have tons of advice and instructions if you’re starting fresh. By using our resume builder, you’ll get a professionally designed resume, you’ll be able to apply for jobs with just a few clicks, and our recruiters will be able to find you if there is a job out there that matches you skills. If you want to use a resume you’ve already made, you can upload it as a document, but you must still build a resume through our site.

To start, log in and go to My Account in the upper menu, then select Create a Resume. Fill in each section, adding as much information about your skills, education, and experience as possible, then be sure to save your resume with a helpful and professional name.

You can save a resume as a draft and edit it later on. However, once a resume has been published it can not be edited. To make changes to a resume that you have completed, copy the resume, and make your changes to the copy. When you are done, you can delete the old version if you wish.

What if I want to use a resume I've already made?

If you have a pre-designed resume, you can upload it under My Documents and attach it to your application.  You will still have to create a resume through our site in order to receive job recommendations from our staff and to give employers a streamlined way to review all applicants, but you can use your It’s Academic resume as a short personal summary/profile while attaching your full resume.

What can I do with the additional documents that I upload?

You have the option to attach any of your documents to a job application, choosing those which are relevant to the position and the employer’s requirements.

How do I upload additional documents?

Documents such as cover letters, reference letters, degrees and certifications, university transcripts, and a scanned copy of your passport and other ID can be uploaded to your profile from the My Documents page. Documents cannot be edited from our site, so if you want to edit or modify a document you have uploaded, edit the original on your computer, and then upload the revised document.

I had an account on your old website. Do I need to make a new account and resume?

If you had an account on our old website, all you have to do is create a new password (click here) and you’ll be instantly registered on our new site. All of your old info will be transferred over and we will still have your old resume and other documents on file. You can use them to apply to any job posted by It’s Academic Jobs, but if you want to apply to a position posted directly by an employer, you’ll have to set up a new resume. Luckily, making a new resume takes just a few minutes and we have a handy guide to help you out.

How can I delete my account?

Please be aware that we cannot reactive your account once it is deleted, and you will no longer be able to apply for jobs. If you have already found a job, we recommend keeping your profile active in case a great opportunity comes along in the future. In the meantime, your information will be stored securely and confidentially.

If you still want to permanently delete your account, use the Contact Us page to submit your request. Please let us know why you’re deleting your account – if there’s anything we can do to make your experience better we would love to hear from you in detail.

Why am I receiving a Job Match from It’s Academic?

Its Academic is more than a simple job board – we have experienced consultants that are actively supporting employers and helping them connect with great candidates who are a match for their opportunities. The Job Match emails are based on a combination of keywords we may have found in your resume, prior jobs that you have applied for, or if you live in a specific area where we have a new opportunity. We want to make sure that you are informed of any jobs that you might be interested in. If you are not interested in a job recommendation, simply disregard the message – the next Job Match might be the perfect opportunity for you.

How do Job Alerts work?

Job Alerts are email notifications that you can create on our website to keep you up-to-date on the latest job opportunities that match your criteria. To create a job alert, enter your search parameters into the job search page and then fill in your email and desired frequency in the job alert box to the right.

To ensure delivery of the job alerts, add to your contact list or safe sender list, and be sure to check your junk mail/spam if you are not receiving any emails. If you would like to change the frequency or search criteria, create a new job alert from our search page. If you would like to stop receiving a job alert, click the link at the bottom of your email.

How do I unsubscribe from an email?

Simply click Unsubscribe at the bottom of the email you’ve received, and you will be taken to a webpage where you can confirm your choice.

Job Applications

An employer told me they’re not accepting applications. Why is the job on your site?

Because of high turnover rate, some of our employers choose to list their job openings with It’s Academic year-round to build a talent pool of potential candidates. These employers regularly hire new employees, but they may not be hiring at the exact moment you have applied. What does this mean for you? If you apply for a job and the employer tells you they’re not interviewing now, be patient. We hear from job seekers that they get hired weeks, even months after applying. The employer has your application filed away and may contact you when hiring has begun again. In the meantime, check our job board regularly, or sign up for a Job Alert.

Why was my application rejected?

We can’t give you an exact answer because It’s Academic is not involved in employers’ hiring decisions. There are many possible reasons why your application may have been rejected – there may have been a lot of competition for that particular position, or your skills and work experience may not have been exactly what the employer was looking for. Check out our article on crafting resumes, where we provide tips on how you can make sure your applications are in top shape. Keep applying and the right job will come at the right time.

I would prefer to apply confidentially.

All of our applicant’s information remains 100% confidential, and no information will ever be shared publicly at any time without your prior and explicit consent. Some of the jobs on our website have an email address in the description so you can apply directly to the employer and you can also email your resume and any requests to However, it is always preferable to create an account and upload your resume unless otherwise specified, since this is what the employer will expect.

What if I am invited to complete a video interview?

It’s Academic and many of our employers invite pre-screened job seekers to complete a video interview that may be live or recorded. That’s great news – this means your information has been reviewed, and the employer thinks you may be an excellent candidate for the role. Typically, you will be given interview questions to answer while speaking to the camera on your computer, tablet or even your smart phone. Follow the employer’s instructions closely, and for more info on how to succeed in a video interview, please read this article.

What if I am invited to an interview?

Congratulations! The most important advice we can give you is to closely follow the employer’s instructions, be on time, be presentable and be well-prepared. You can also read these helpful interview tips here.

What happens after I apply for a job?

Wait to hear from the employer. Don’t forget to check your email, spam folder, and voicemail regularly. If you do not hear from the employer within seven to ten business days, you may wish to try contacting them directly, if possible.

Why was I sent to the employer’s website to apply for a job?

Some of the employers who advertise jobs on our site require job seekers to apply on their company website. When you click Apply Now on It’s Academic, you may be sent to the employer’s site to finish the application process. Don’t skip this step! If you do not fully complete the application process, you won’t be considered for the job.

How do I apply for jobs with It’s Academic?

Once you’ve found a job that you’re interested in, whether through a job search or one of our communications, you can apply through our site by logging in and clicking the Apply button on a job. At that point you may be prompted to apply by email or you may be sent to the employer’s website. Applying by email will allow you to attach the specific resume and other documents that you have in your It’s Academic profile. If you apply through the employer’s website, you will be redirected to the appropriate page where you can complete your application according to their instructions.

What requirements do international applicants need to fulfill?

We primarily offer academic jobs in the United States and Canada, and “international jobs” which are generally positions for native English speakers in non-English speaking regions like Asia, the Middle East, Europe and South America. Normally these positions are at international schools that offer an American, Canadian or British curriculum, and specific requirements will vary for each position. In Canada or the United States, it is difficult to get a job unless you are already a Canadian or American passport holder, and eligible to work in that specific country.
