Assistant Director of Admissions
This is a permanent, full-time position that works 12 months of the year. Ideal start date will be July, 2019.
The Assistant Director of Admissions plays a key leadership position in the admissions office at St. Michaels University School. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Admissions and takes on many of the responsibilities of the Director in her absence. The Assistant Director works closely with all stakeholders in the recruitment, selection, and enrolment of a diverse group of mission-appropriate students.
The ideal candidate will possess a university degree, increased leadership roles, substantial experience in sales and marketing or public relations, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A significant asset will be a background in education, especially with independent schools. Additional useful skills will be a high degree of professionalism, organizational skills, additional language skills, and a flexible schedule to fulfill travel obligations associated with the job.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in education, business, marketing or communication.
Two to five years experience in an admissions-related environment.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in or who can demonstrate an understanding of independent school culture.
Prior leadership experience is an asset.
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, as well as a proven ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
Some knowledge of communication and marketing techniques and best practices, including social media tools and techniques.
Ability to both lead and execute strategically.
Outstanding judgment, a good sense of humour and a high level of energy, creativity and flexibility
Responsibilities
This role will help manage all aspects of the admissions process from inquiry to enrolment involving both our boarding and day programs. Responsibilities include being a direct support to the Director of Admissions, developing a strong referral network, nurturing relationships with prospective families, responding to and interviewing prospective students and families, administering entrance tests, database management, public relations, marketing and recruitment travel.
Lead initiatives and research which aid in understanding the market and the effects and outcomes of admissions policies and practices as assigned by the Director of Admissions.
Lead program implementation as assigned by the Director of Admissions.
Represent the admissions office in the absence of the Director of Admissions.
Represent SMUS at various external organizations and associations.
Under the guidance of the Director of Admissions, support the development, maintenance and review of the Enrolment Management Plan.
Play a leadership role at admissions special events as needed and often lead the planning of the event.
Participate in round-table strategy discussions and strategic planning review sessions as needed.
Act as a positive role model and participate in the day-to-day leadership of the school by being visible, engaged and an effective presence amongst the students, parents, faculty and staff.
Work collaboratively with several departments to further admissions office goals and objectives but to also support goals and objectives of other departments.
Assist in the management of admissions programs, such as international agents.
Support all aspects of the Admissions Office day-to-day functions from enquiry to enrolment.
Embrace and effectively carry out all the skills of a high-performing admissions associate, including interviewing and communicating with prospective students and families, administering entrance tests, data base management, personal budget management, and other tasks as they arise.
Travel domestically and/or internationally and work independently to arrange, plan, report and analyze travel budget and recruitment activity.
Write comprehensive reports as needed.
Continually strive to understand the programs and services SMUS offers.
Engage in professional development opportunities.
