Fraser Academy is seeking a 1 year maternity leave coverage Home Economics Teacher to join our team beginning September 2019.
Fraser Academy is a fully-accredited day school, which focuses on educating students in Grades 2-12 with language-based learning disabilities. These students are taught in small class sizes with up to ten students. Each student receives one-to-one language training daily and works with a variety of subject specialist teachers.
Position Type: One Year Maternity leave (beginning September 2019), Full-time
Reports to: Director of Academics & Curriculum, and Head of Department
Job Summary:

As a Home Economics Teacher, you will play an important role in developing and promoting both applied design, skills and technology though culinary and textiles classes throughout the school. You will work with a collaborative, dynamic team of educators and staff who are passionate about the success of all learners. This role requires someone who can adapt and adjust their teaching to meet the diverse needs of each learner and is passionate about student success. Excellent instructional practice and an eagerness to learn and grow as an educator are required for this role.

  • Formal training in teaching home economics
  • Be a strong cook with a diverse set of food preparation and cooking skills
  • Have experience in hand and machine textiles
  • Experience using education technology within their classroom (interactive projectors, Google Apps, iPads)
  • Experience and a passion for teaching in Applied Skills from Grades 7 through 12.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in teaching students with learning difficulties.


  • Teaching groups of up to 10 students, with language based learning disabilities and occasional students with attention deficits
  • Teaching students safe food handling, preparation and cooking methods
  • Teaching students hand and machine construction techniques with regards to textiles
  • Formal assessment of student work (report cards)
