Job Overview

A new public liberal arts college is opening in Hiroshima City, Japan and seeks to hire approximately 20 overseas teachers at the Professor, Associate Professor and Instructor levels.

The university seeks to establish a new educational model in Japanese higher education that encourages proactive learning, a global mindset and practical application through collaboration with external organizations including international companies and NPOs. Candidates who have (or can proactively build) networks with various entities both within Japan and overseas will be valued. Candidates should possess strong leadership ability, organizational management talent and teamwork skills.

The faculty will be covering around 50 different class subjects within specializations including Literature, Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology, History, Environment, Management, Public Policy, Mathematics, Accounting, Regional Revitalization, Data Science and ESL.

This is a unique opportunity for teachers to get in on the ground-floor of a new public college, take on a leadership role in their departments, and teach a course load designed specifically around their expertise.

Salary will be determined during the screening process and is negotiable. Benefits include health insurance, employment insurance and partial subsidization for housing.


Applicants must satisfy all the qualifications and requirements stated below:

  1. Applicants should be either a:
    • Professor: A person who has a doctor's degree or research achievement equivalent
    • Associate professor: A person who has a master’s degree or research achievement equivalent
    • Instructor: A person who has a master’s degree or research achievement equivalent
  2. A person who is able to promote educational and research activities based on the educational philosophy of the University
  3. A person who has the ability to conduct classes in English, and preferably in Japanese as well
  4. An applicant who has the skills to conduct classes interactively through use of active learning techniques (e.g. problem-solving exercises and group work method)
  5. A person who is capable of implementing educational programs in cooperation with various entities, including companies, international organizations, overseas universities, NPOs and municipalities in and outside Japan
  6. A person who is capable of developing classes in cooperation with teachers in other subject areas and practical teachers from outside the University
  7. A person who is able to actively address self-development, improvement of lessons, overall improvement of curriculum and so on, based on the school’s basic policy for faculty development
