POSITION:   Teacher, Intermediate Math/Science (Grades 5-7)
REPORTS TO:   Head of Junior School
START DATE:   August 27, 2018
CONTRACT:  Full-time (1.0), 1 year term

Our Math & Science Specialist Teacher is a valued member of our Junior  School community who, with the support of the school leadership and teaching teams, provides future-focused, engaging program delivery and a warm, supportive learning environment to his or her classroom of learners.


• Prepare course timelines and materials such as syllabi, homework assignments and handouts
• Prepare lesson plans with clear objectives that follow B.C. curriculum standards
• Use information in Individualized Education Programmes (IEPs) to strategically adapt instructional materials
• Work collaboratively with specialist and homeroom teachers to support the development of integrated lessons and units
• Present materials in logical manner and in appropriate quantities
• Understand the principles of Attachment Theory and how they relate to teaching
• Maintain appropriate standards of behaviour, mutual respect, and safety within classroom
• Uphold WPGA’s Code of Conduct, provide appropriate consequences and contact homeroom teachers/parents when required
• Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions
• Incorporate appropriate technology and media in lesson planning
• Formal and informal on going assessment of students, including report cards, progress reports and marking
• Develop a positive, safe culture through actions and words
• Integrate social responsibility and kindness into daily teaching and routines.
• Be available to students outside of class time
• Implement and make regular connections to the CARE program (Citizenship, Attitude, Respect and Esteem)

• Possess or be in application of a valid BC Teaching Certificate
• Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in education; with a specialization in math and/or science
• Understands and uses current literacy practices and teaching strategies
• Models a strong work ethic as well as high standards of commitment
• Fosters school mission, values and sense of community through student-centered decisions
• Effectively communicates with staff, parents and students
• Maintains professionalism through all school interactions and activities
• Collaborates with colleagues in Junior and Senior School positions
• Values continual growth and development of school programs and curriculum
