We are currently seeking highly qualified ELA teachers at Washington Global Public Charter School (WGLO). Washington Global is a small, intimate public charter school that serves just over 200 students from throughout Washington, DC. Students in grades 6-8 who attend our school learn to become globally minded citizens in an increasingly globalized world. In these extremely pivotal years, students at WGLO focus on their academic and social development by working with our dedicated faculty and administration to prepare for high school, college and their careers.
Our core values
At WGLO, we believe in the power of our small school and accompanying small learning communities. We also believe in the value of high-quality instructors who can nurture and support middle school students. In turn, we support those teachers with meaningful feedback from instructional coaches who are experts in their field.
We also seek to partner with our surrounding DC community and partners throughout the world. Located in the nation's capitol, we are within walking distance of more than a dozen federal agencies and constantly seek to broaden our students' horizons through these connections. In addition, we also partner with embassies and sister schools in other countries to expose our students to an increasingly diverse world. We believe strongly in the power of service-learning and problem-based learning both in our unique global studies curriculum and all our other courses.
At WGLO, we use the International Middle Years Curriculum which a global curriculum that focuses on the academic and social needs of middle school students. We also teach based off of Common Core standards, focusing on EngageNY as our primary set of resources in ELA and Math. Students receive differentiated instruction depending on their individual skills and needs, so teachers will have a degree of autonomy in this.
What we seek
We are looking for experienced professionals who want to do right by our students and to broaden their perspectives in an ever-changing, globalized world. We seek teachers who are experts in ELA content yet are open to feedback and constantly want to improve their practice. We seek teachers who love working with middle school students and can use data to help them grow academically and socially. We would like all candidates to have at least 1 to 2 years of teaching experience in an urban setting.
We offer a comprehensive benefits package to all employees working 30 or more hours each week. We offer health, dental, vision, disability insurance, and much more, not only for each employee to take better care of themselves, but also to provide a healthy lifestyle for their family members.
